Dwarves are the weakest in Third Age Total War, yes. Divide and Conquer that's a different story. Elves, didn't change. Still the best in my point of view. Small Starting Domain.Good Archers which can also be a substitute melee infantry and cavalry which is also ranged. Dwarves, I like it but melee infantry is its very much its army.

Crusades and Teutonic are both generally considered to be the best two campaigns. Americas is cool for a playthrough as Spain and maybe one as the other factions but it is very repetitive. Britannia is ok too, I found it to also be slightly repetitive as most countries have somewhat similar units. As for what to start with, depends on what you
How To. 1. Go to C:\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\data\world\maps\campaign\imperial_campaign. 2. Open descr_strat.txt with notepad. 3. Copy the unlockable factions to playable. Save the file and close it. Make sure you delete the factions in the unlockable when you copy and paste it or it will not work.
Turks as the hardest faction? In vanilla? Err, are you serious? ^ Access to the de facto Godmode units of MTW2 (horse archers), superb late units (JHI, JA, JM), the same broken Jihad that the other muslim factions get, great financial settlements etc. Really, in vanilla you need ~5 turns or so to crush the Byzantines and shore up everything north of Antioch thanks to the broken Jihad. Also, the English have Armored Swordsmen and Dismounted English Knights, both of which are good. Coupled with their longbowmen, that's a good infantry-based faction. And as the previous poster stated, the HRE has a great roster of heavy infantry, as well as solid cav units (the Reiters are way cool, once you get to gunpowder). Re: What is the best non catholic faction to play as. Orthodox factions are boring, 1 because almost no one follows that religion at the time and 2 you cant' evne call crusades. And comon, crusades are like half the fun of hte game. The pleasure about a dream is that it's a fantasy. 14 SFO: Grimhammer 2. The historical titles in this series aren't the only ones that benefit from great mods. Warhammer enthusiasts are in luck, as a truly stellar mod exists for Total War
Trilogy. "Medieval Trilogy" consists of (logically) 3 Parts: 526 AD Part - Dark Ages of Medieval history, when the main political actors are Barbaric kingdoms, Byzantine Empire, the Sassanian Empire and the Nomads (like turkish tribes, avars and cumans); 1080 AD Part - Classic Medieval period with its feudal knights, russian druzhina, mongolian
If you're playing Vanilla Medieval 2, then the Axemen presents a conundrum. It is a 2-handed unit, and in Vanilla - incase you are unaware - there is a bug dubbed "The Two-Handed Glitch/Bug" that renders 2-handed units less-effective. Long story short, units who can swing faster consistently interrupt the slower swing animations of 2-handed units. We0Gkd9.
