EF 16-35 2.8 L II USM - focus issues. 01-31-2016 04:56 PM. I am an amauter photographer. I acquirede the 16-35 lens a while ago - back in 2012. My intentions, after reading reviews, were to have a flexible on to shot both inside and outside. I use the 60D body. Quite often I do have focus problems when shotting with 16-35.
Between a 24 f1.4 L and a 16-35 f4 L, I'd easily go with the 16-35. 1.4 isn't useful for lanscapes anyway, but IS definitely is. Or even a 24-70 f4 L. I find that an ultrawide like a 16-35 can actually be quite challenging for lanscapes, in the sense that it requires some practice in composing photos for it. The Canon EF 16-35 f/2.8L II features ring type USM. There are two types of USM that Canon uses in its L series lenses. The Micromotor based one is the cheaper and the slower of the two. The other one is the ring type USM. This is more expensive but also faster and quieter when focusing. This lens has Full Time Manual focusing (FTM).
