The trick was to remove the fuse, wait about 30 seconds, and reinstate the fuse back in its slot. Worked like a charm every time. As to the correct fuse to remove, check the fuse panel, there should be a little guide card with symbols on them. I'll do that once I get home and get the manual back.

I removed the unit from the dashboard to get the exact model number and hardware version (in my case 1T0 035 680 B and hardware version 11) 2.
